If you're thinking of booking a women's portrait shoot in the Waikato, chances are you're already wondering what to wear. It's one of the most common questions I get and I will often suggest they consider purchasing a new lingerie set as, who doesn’t feel bloody amazing in something fun, sexy and new!

So where do you actually find lingerie you love, especially when you're based in Hamilton or the wider Waikato?

Why shopping for lingerie in person matters

Before we dive into the where, we need to know a little of about the how...

Shopping for lingerie in person is always the best option. Website images alone rarely give you a true sense of fit, fabric quality or how something will actually feel on your body. Sizing varies enormously between brands, and what looks great on a model online can fit completely differently on you.

If you live in Wellington, Christchurch or Auckland, there are a number of in-store options for you to consider.  Unfortunately, in the Tron and nearby, the options are a little lacking, leaving you feeling as though there is nothing for you out there and, anything you do find, gets you wondering what the markup was as it fits weird and feels very Shein/Temu-quality…

In addition to trying to find brands/styles/colours you love, there is also the element of bra sizing, something that must be done in person and, if you haven’t been measured in store before, I'd strongly recommend doing it before your shoot. Your true size may genuinely surprise you, plus fittings are free with no obligation to purchase and usually available for walk-ins. Options for bra sizing in Waikato and Hamilton include Farmers, Hot Gossip Bra shop and Bendon.

Once you know your size, the rest becomes a lot easier. Let's talk options!

Budget-friendly lingerie options in Hamilton & Waikato

For more accessible price points, these are your go-to options in the Waikato:

These stores regularly run good sales, which makes them worth checking in on. The selection is broad but quality can be hit and miss, and sizing is inconsistent between brands so, allow yourself plenty of time and try on everything.

One thing to be aware of: the ethical and sustainability practices of most brands stocked at this price point are vague at best. If that matters to you (and it's completely valid if it does), you may want to explore some of the other options below.

Mid-range lingerie in Hamilton

For something a little more special, two Hamilton boutiques are worth a visit:

Ruby — Stocks a small but lovely lingerie selection, usually 3–4 sets. Still worth a look!

True Store — Also carries a small range in the Samsøe Samsøe label but with gorgeous colours and simple lace/mesh designs. Pop in to confirm your sizing, then explore more colours and styles directly on the Samsøe Samsøe website or through Sisters & Co.

The ranges here are limited, but the quality and aesthetic are genuinely beautiful and the in-store visit means you can buy online with confidence knowing your size.

Sustainable & secondhand lingerie in the Waikato

If quality and sustainability are priorities but your budget has limits, secondhand is a brilliant option and one that's often overlooked when it comes to lingerie.

In-store secondhand options:

Online secondhand:

You can find genuinely beautiful, high-quality lingerie through these channels at a fraction of the original price. Ethical and gorgeous? Yes, please.

Online lingerie brands worth exploring

If you're happy to shop online, there are some stunning brands out there. Before you buy, always:

  • Check the sizing guide and measure yourself — don't guess
  • Read the returns policy — especially for international brands
  • Factor in additional costs — GST, import duty, levies and disbursement/processing fees can all add up. Some international brands also charge for return shipping, which can make the experience more stressful than it needs to be.
